Schedule for the Fall 2023 Markus Library Monthly Training Sessions!

 

Our Monthly Virtual Training Sessions introduce you to a variety of resources and services that the library offers.

Monthly Training Sessions are offered virtually on every 3rd Tuesday from 1pm to 2pm. All the classes are open for Rockefeller University employees. Registration is required. Please e-mail markuslibrary[at]rockefeller.edu to register.

September 19th, 2023 – General Orientation to The Library
Instructor: Matthew Covey, University Librarian, Rockefeller University

Matt will go over the resources and services that the library offers. This class is highly recommended for everyone who has been hired recently and wants to know all about the library, as well as anyone who needs some updates on our resources and services.

October 17th, 2023 – Searching Primo
Instructor: Claire Warner, Data Services Specialist, Rockefeller University

Primo Search is our library system and discovery tool. Primo provides simple, one-stop searching for books and e-books, articles, videos, and more. Claire will show you how to effectively use Primo Search and all the other features found in Primo.

November 21st, 2023 – Specialty Databases: All About Drugs (Pharmaprojects and Pharmaceutical Substances Database)

In this training session, we will show you 2 specialty databases focused on drug information. Pharmaprojects is the trusted reference database for the global drug R&D industry pipeline, providing a holistic view from preclinical to launch. Pharmaceutical Substances is designed to be a complete reference guide to every pharmaceutical compound of significance. We invited specialists from each database to show us how to use them effectively.

December 19th, 2023 – Specialty Databases: Chemistry (SciFinder-n and Science of Synthesis)
Instructors: John Kratunis, Manager, Customer Success Specialists, N.A., CAS and Alex Russell, Executive Editor and Product Owner, Science of Synthesis, Thieme Chemistry

For the last class of the Fall 2023 session, we will show you 2 specialty databases focused on Chemistry. CAS SciFindernis one true source for authoritatively identifying a chemical substance and its related chemical structures, chemical names, regulatory information, and properties, including CAS Registry Numbers®, reaction schemes, step-by-step experimental procedures, detailed conditions, and product yields. Science of Synthesis provides a critical review of the synthetic methodology developed from the early 1800s to date for the entire organic and organometallic chemistry field. We invited specialists from each database to show us how to use these databases.
