Operations of the Rita and Frits Markus Library During Covid19

Dear members of the Rockefeller University community,

In accordance with the guidance offered by the Office of the President regarding increasing social distancing and helping prevent the further spread of Covid19 the Markus Library will be moving to virtual operation as of Monday the 16th of March until further notice.

Access to the Main Reading Room, Level A and the books stacks on Level B will be via RU ID card only and the Library Circulation desk will not be staffed.
All access to electronic materials such as Journals, e-books, databases and other resources will be unaffected and we remind users to access the Library’s electronic material via VPN when working off campus.
All books and other physical materials will be able to be checked out via the Self Checkout Machine found on the main reading room floor.

To ensure that all members of the Rockefeller University Community that wish to access our physical materials can do so a member of the Library staff will be present at the circulation desk on Monday the 16th and Tuesday the 17th from 11am to 2pm to setup your RU ID cards to check out books if you have not done so previously.
Also to assist in this process the loan period for all physical materials has been extended and books can be held by the borrower until normal Library operations resume

At this time the Interlibrary Loan service for electronic materials such as journals and e-books that the Markus Library does not subscribe to will remain 100% functional and as always we urge all members of the RU community to utilize Interlibrary Loan when access to non subscribed material is needed. The Interlibrary Loan service for physical materials, such as books, will function on an as needed basis but we ask that such requests be kept to a minimum and used only when the resource is vital to ongoing research.

All requests for Interlibrary loan materials should be made via librequest@rockefeller.edu or via the online form found in Primo

All requests for assistance should be made either via the libcirc@rockefeller.edu email address or directed to the appropriate staff member. All staff contact details can be found on the Library website https://www.rockefeller.edu/markus-library/staff/

All requests will be handled remotely either via email, phone call or video conference (Zoom or Skype)
The Library staff will be available for training sessions and other assistance via video conference during this time.

Rest assured that access to vital resources to assist research will not be compromised at this time and the core functions of the Library will remain operational albeit virtual.

Thank you
