Fall 2022 Library Monthly Training Sessions

Monthly Training Sessions – Every 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 1pm to 2pm, the library offers curated training sessions of selected library resources and services. They are offered online via Zoom. Training sessions are open to all Rockefeller University employees and affiliates with Rockefeller University ID card. Please register to attend!

We will go over resources and services that the library offers. This class is highly recommended for everyone who are hired recently and want to know all about the library, as well as anyone who needs some updates on our resources and services.

Instructor: Sarah Lippincott, Head of Community Engagement

The Dryad Digital Repository is a curated resource that makes research data discoverable, freely reusable, and citable. Dryad provides a general-purpose home for a wide diversity of data types. This training session with a Dryad expert will show you how best we can utilize features and functions, and demonstrate how to use Dryad to comply with the new NIH data management and sharing policy.

Sarah Lippincott is a librarian and library consultant with a decade of experience supporting open access, digital scholarship, and scholarly communications through strategic planning, research, service design, facilitation, and communications work. As Head of Community Engagement at Dryad, Sarah works with institutions, funders, and researchers to increase awareness of and engagement with data sharing and data reuse. She received her MLS from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and prior to joining Dryad, she worked in a variety of roles within and adjacent to libraries. Sarah started her career as the founding Program Director for the Library Publishing Coalition and went on to coordinate assessment, user experience, and strategic planning activities for a major research library; led strategic consulting services for a digital services agency specializing in open source web development for the cultural heritage sector; and consulted on projects for the Educopia Institute, the Next Generation Library Publishing project (NGLP), the Library Publishing Coalition, Candid, the Preservation of Electronic Government Information (PEGI) Project, the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).

This class will give you strategies for investigating and evaluating your options for disseminating your work.
Rie will review the current scholarly publishing landscape including Open Access journals and transformative agreements, various journal metrics, and all the nuts and bolts that you should know as an author in the Biomedical and Health Sciences field.

Primo Search is our library system and discovery tool. Primo provides simple, one-stop searching for books and e-books, articles, videos, and more. Matt Covey, University Librarian at the Rockefeller University, will show you how to effectively use Primo Search and all the other features found in Primo.

January 17th, 2023 – Bibliographic Databases: which one is right for you? Please e-mail to register.
Instructor: Rie Goto, Assistant University Librarian

Rie will go over different bibliographic databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science, highlighting coverage and features for each databases, and show you how to determine which databases will yield the best results for your topic.
