As we move into a more digital world it is important that the methods by which we record, store and retrieve data evolve as well. In this lecture we will discuss the history of Electronic Lab Notebooks, ELNs, how they function, the features that should be considered when choosing an ELN, and the ELNs that are best suited for the research environment of today. Emphasis will also be given to the use of ELNs in clinical research and how best to choose one when working with clinical data.
